George Lancaster - Head Coach                                                                                                                                                       


George Baskerville Lancaster, Jr. is a native of Chase City, Virginia, a 1962 graduate of West End High School, and an alumnus of Virginia State College (now University). His teaching experiences include four years in the Mecklenburg County Public School System, seven years in Richmond City's Huguenot High School, and 24 years at Highland Springs High School in Henrico County. Even though he has been retired from teaching for the last 10 years, George remains the Boy's Head Basketball Coach at Highland Springs (with 622 wins), and was recently named Head Coach of the Richmond Elite Professional Basketball team.

Coach Lancaster started out as a fifth grade elementary teacher. He formerly taugh and coached in the Mecklenburg County Public School System, and at Huguenot High School in the City of Richmond. He coached the Richmond Metro Youth Games Team to a National Championship in 1979. He was named the first Head Coach "of color" in any sport in Henrico County Public School System in April of 1979 and was Highland Springs High School "Teacher of the Year" in 1995. He  was Henrico County's Runner-up Teacher of the Year that same year.

Coach Lancaster is a frequent lecturer, basketball clinician, and writer of several basketball publications. An all-time winningest coach at highland springs high school, third winningest active coach in the Virginia High School League with 615 AAA Wins (to date). He coached teams to 24 district championships, coached teams to 26 District Tournament Championships, and coached teams 5 State Tournament appearances. He coached Highland Springs High School Basketball Team to 2003 and 2007 State Championships, won District, Region, and State Championships.

Coach Lancaster is named to three Halls of Fame: Virginia State University in 1992; West End High school in 1999; and 2003 Highland Springs High School. He was fortunate to have coached many excellent people and citizens in basketball, baseball, track, and football.
